A River Ran Through It:
2012 Annual Meeting in Review
Our 2012 meeting is in the books. With over 58 contributed papers and 135 attendees representing 12 universities, 8 states and 2 provinces all gathered on the banks of the Columbia River, our 2012 meeting was a gem and our combined travels nearly as expansive as those of OR-7!
The diversity of our research was on display. Our presentations, all under the banner of Riverine Systems Ecology and Restoration, spanned from pathogens to climate change, from freshwater mussel ecology to dam removal, from carnivore management to the role of Ensatina in the carbon cycle and included many taxa in between.
We were proud to be joined once again by Northwest Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation as well as for the first time the Pacific Northwest Native Freshwater Mussel Worksgroup. They, along with some of the top experts in our field who presented their work during our plenaries and banquet - Pete Bisson, Jim O'Connor, Christian Torgensen, Robert Bescheta and Charlie Crisafulli, brought with them a message of collarboration and connectedness between the faunas of the Northwest and the biologists that manage, conserve and represent them to the world.
We were also proud to announce the winners of our annual awards:
Our student scholarship was awarded to Tara Blackman a masters student at Oregon State University who is studying the reproductive biology of rainbow trout in Spirtit Lake, WA.
Our best student paper presentation was awarded to Gwen Bury and her presentation "Southern Torrent Salamanders and Climate Change: Initial MaxEnt and GIS Analysis."
At the banquet we presented our distinguished member recognition award to Char Corkran for her vast and sustained contributions to SNVB and the field ecology in the Pacific Northwest.
And we would very much like to thank everyone who attended including all of the hard working volunteers for really bringing the room all together!

2013 Meeting
Discussions are underway for our next meeting, which we hope will bring us back to our Northern region. We will let you know here once a venue has been determined!
